Summary: "My Summer of Reading Lesbian Romances"

I loved this book. The twists and turns and possible love triangle gave it an added edge. The main character also was introduced to Lesbian Literature by reading Curious Wine, my all time favorite Romance Book! I enjoy Georgia Beers works in general because the setting is Rochester, NY. Although I've never been to Rochester, I do live a few hundred miles south, so it's nice to have a book with an NorthEast US setting.

Summary: "Light reading"

This is a good quick read that kept me turning the pages. I didn't care for the father and daughter courting the same woman. I couldn't help feeling, as I was reading, that no matter who "got the girl", future family holiday dinners couldn't help but be exceedingly uncomfortable! But, overall, enjoyable light reading.

Summary: "Entertaining, But Flawed"

I considered giving this book 4 stars, as 3 seemed a little harsh. The book was entertaining (I read it all in one evening, unable to put it down), and the chemistry between the two main characters was hot. However, compared to other lesbian romance novels, including others by Georgia Beers, this novel just wasn't quite of the same quality.

First of all, of the reviews I've read for this novel, a couple have mentioned that this was a well edited novel. However, I found quite a few errors throughout that actually became quite distracting. The biggest issue was the amount of times when dialogue wasn't in separate paragraphs, making it clear who was speaking.

Warning: some spoilers follow.

Secondly, while the characters had chemistry, and the novel was entertaining, the plot was unrealistic with over-the-top characters. I felt like the subplot of father and daughter competing for the same woman could have (and should have) been left out.

My final issue with the novel, was that it became too gay. It almost felt like it started preaching about how to be a lesbian. You might be a lesbian if you play softball, watch Xena, or are interested in feminism. Change that, you ARE a lesbian if you play softball, watch Xena, or are interested in feminism. No coming out story is complete without the gay community cliches.

The cliched, overdone, homophobia came out of nowhere. Melanie's cousin had no problem having a gay neighbor, even flirting with her for fun, but then turns around and calls her a predatory dyke. No coming out story is complete without some sort of homophobia.

Melanie realizes pretty much immediately that she's physically attracted to Taylor, stating at the start that she's had sex-dreams about women, but then later is made to sound like she's totally caught off guard by the idea that she might be a lesbian. It was made to sound like the idea had never crossed her mind. No coming out story is complete without the character panicking about her newly discovered sexual orientation.

If you're looking for a fun read, this novel won't disappoint. However, if you're looking for higher quality writing, I'd recommend any of Georgia Beers' other novels. Unlike her other books, this one was forgettable, and most likely won't be read twice.

a great read, portraying the confusion and surprise of a first timer in the experience of same sex love. Hits the mark as far as the unexpectedness of self discovery of a previously unrealized sexuality.

Summary: "Great Book"

This book really touched me and I will forever keep it and reread it many times. This author wrote very well and described the passion and heartache like no other. I recomend this book to everyone to read. You will be addicted to this author!
